Emotions. So many emotions. I could find myself in what felt like each story. Reading and seeing the transformation in each person’s journey was like peeking into the art that each person really is. A work of art. Every single powerful being in this manuscript is art. It’s a beautiful reminder that all of us are art.

This is an inspired work. Inspiration is a mysterious energy of desire that contains the potential for unstoppable momentum. This book is clearly more than a collection of works from the various co-creators. It is the collective voices of a community born in the past and meeting in the present to free frozen songs together in a quest to produce something that cultivates positive potential within and beyond a history of pain. This book does in fact clearly gift the reader/viewer with the sense of a chorus that sings just a bit more loudly with each chapter.

Reading this manuscript felt like stepping into another world, one in which I and everyone else could see ourselves as whole people. Even though my healing is not complete, reading this manuscript allowed me to see others on a similar journey to my own. We can love ourselves wholly and live in freedom even if we are not fully healed. There are many women on the road ahead of me and many on the road behind me; we all need each other to keep moving forward.

Freeing Our Frozen Songs is more than a book. It is a sacred, healing space—not only for its co-creators but for readers who have also experienced difficult emotions or traumas. The creators’ vulnerability on everything from body image to childhood abuse will break your heart and, then, in the face of hope, melt it. If you have faced the uphill battle of healing, you will appreciate the radical honesty, the recognition that the process never ends. These survivors of the unthinkable demonstrate that, in community and authenticity, healing IS possible.

This manuscript and workbook are a great place for people new to their healing journey to start. The stories presented in this manuscript via photographs, paintings and poetry are a great way to share painful experiences in a less traumatic way. Yes, there is pain, sadness and rage…but there is hope, survival and self love present as well. I would definitely use this manuscript and workbook within a group setting, because it’s set up to create space for sharing and growth.
